Congratulations to the new Davidson Fellows!

The Davidson Institute for Talent Development just released its list of the 2007 Fellows. These amazingly gifted young people will win $10,000-$50,000 scholarships for their projects, which range from new scientific breakthroughs to musical compositions to short stories.

You can read about these young people and their projects here.

I'll be highlighting a few of their projects in coming weeks, but it will be hard to know where to start!

If you're looking for somewhere to start when writing about the Davidson students, I suggest talking to winner Billy Dorminy. He's particularly interesting in how he went about building his project. As far as I know, he didn't have mom-or-dad as a professor, or extensive university access and training, as is usually the case for math/science winners. He came up with a project while in our online school (, then dramatically refined it over the coming years by working with experts that he sought out himself, with many of these being found online. In other words, his is a story of modern education - a passionate student following his interests, using modern communication means to reach experts in his chosen field. I'm only scratching the surface here - it's a great story.
