The Princess Problem

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts on little girls and princesses (per the previous Gifted Exchange post on this). My column, The Princess Problem, ran in USA Today this morning.

So on target! As the sole breadwinner in my family, I get it! I don't think I ever really wanted to be the princess - I'm more of a Mulan type woman. However, I do ask myself why that it is. Things would be much easier if I had married "the prince".

Instead, I chose a man who is a terrific stay-at-home dad. He's the right fit me, but bucking the cultural norms is tough. There's a lot of guilt involved. It's harder to make your own way when it's not on a well-worn path.
